The Chaffinch on a postcard

I can’t stay away from the birds! This time I sketched this little Chaffinch (Bofink in Swedish, Buchfink in German).
I sketched him with pencil on a sheet of regular paper with text about Chaffinches. Colored him with watercolor pencils and a fine liner and white ink (Faber-Castell Art Pen & Uni-ball Signo Ink Pen -white).

I cut him out and almost mounted (glued! Happy GIT everyone who participates! :)) him on what will be a mail art piece (an index card, that I printed/painted with acrylic paint, doodled, stamped (recycled plastic packaging)). As I couldn’t decide if I liked the background for him, I played with the background color in Photoshop. I think I’ll add something underneath the bird in the paper collage, to make him more visible…

The first picture is the paper collage (I added some yellow and green to the background meanwhile) and the second is the digital collage.

Once the mail art is done, I’ll update the picture 🙂

  1. Sweet bird, I prefer the green background. Der blaue Hintergrund erdrückt den Vogel etwas. I like your use of cards, earth or heaven 🙂

    1. Thanks Gabriele 🙂
Yes, exactly what I thought too (I think I’ll change my plan completely for the paper collage and make a new background – I guess that’s why I didn’t glue the bird yet ;))

  2. Aw how cute he is!

    1. Thanks, Hanna! 🙂

  3. Thanks for sharing your process. I love your bird and prefer the cheerful green background. Happy GIT!

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Betsy. 🙂

  4. I like the second one a lot. I think the dark blue background competes to much with the way to cute birdie, plus the sprinkling of leave is a nice touch, like he is enjoying the breeze!
You birds are awesome as always 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Dawn 🙂
Yep, I think so too – too much color for that wee bird…

Love your bird, no matter which background he chooses to roost on. And how delightful to see the bits of text on his breast. A well-read bird indeed.

    1. How sweet of you, Deb. Thanks! 🙂

  9. Love your 2 cards – the birds are adorable! The blue background is gorgeous!

    1. Bev, Thank you! …I love that blue background too – but I think I’ll find something elseto add to this one.

  10. absolutely precious! the green is my fave 🙂

    1. Mine too, aimee 🙂 Though that bird moved meanwhile to a totally different home (well, digitally he’ll just stay with that green, he said ;))

  11. Oooh, I love your bird! You’re so clever, to play with the colors in photoshop before you decide the final collage. I should do that more often myself. Have a nice weekend and hug from Holland.

    1. Thanks!
Yes Marit, do that! Although, sometimes, this digital collaging opens too many options, and then I can’t decide at all… 😉
Anyway – have fun with the ICAD – I’ll check you blog for updates (and your haiku’s – i love them!)

  12. I’m loving the birds and the layered effect of your collage.

  13. WHAT a sweetie! What a great idea, too! Using your images on other pieces! Love it.

    1. Thank you, Chris. Currently that’s my way of not wanting to let go of my birdies 😉 Using them also digitally…
